How Long Does a New Patient Dental Exam and X-Ray Take?
We know a dental exam may not be the top item on your to-do list, so we aim to get you in and out of our office as soon as possible. A new patient intake exam, when combined with x-rays, usually takes around one hour to complete. You can get back to your regularly scheduled daily activities in no time.
What Does a Comprehensive Dental Exam Include?
After completing your new patient paperwork, our dental hygienists will guide you through the initial x-rays to give us an overview of your unique needs. We will then provide a thorough cleaning to eliminate any excess plaque and tartar and alert the dentist of any apparent issues. Our dentist will follow this up with a comprehensive exam using fluoroscope cavity detection. If we notice any problems, we will build a personalized treatment plan and help you schedule a follow-up appointment.
What Can You Do to Take Care of Your Teeth at Home?
In between visits to our office, you can take steps to keep your smile bright and shiny. Healthy habits at home are just as essential for your long-term dental health as regular dental exams. If you have any questions about proper brushing and flossing techniques or want additional tips, our dental hygienists would be happy to help you. We recommend that our clients use the following hygiene methods between visits:
● Brush teeth twice per day.
● Floss teeth once per day.
● Use mouth rinse and toothpaste that contains fluoride.
● Use a tongue scraper to clean your tongue.
● Drink at least eight glasses of water every day.
● Avoid foods with high levels of sugar and carbohydrates.
How Often Should You Get a Dental Exam?
We recommend that our clients come in for dental exams on a biannual basis. We would be happy to contact you with reminders when you are due for each six-month appointment.
How Often Should You Get a Dental X-Ray?
If you maintain proper dental hygiene and aren’t experiencing any immediate problems, you will only need an x-ray once per year. As children experience frequent dental changes, they may need x-rays more often than adults.
